Dahl

Welcome to Dahl Class!

You can use this page of the website to find out about Year 2's weekly timetable, what topics we will be studying during the current term and throughout the year and find out what each week's homework is.

Homework is due in on a Friday. Reading books will be changed on a Wednesday and a Friday when possible, but please ensure that your child brings their reading book in to school every day. Friday will also be PE days so please ensure that your child's trainers or plimsolls are in school, their hair is tied up and if possible earrings are removed.

We will also add details of the fun activities we have been taking part in.

We hope the children will have a fantastic year with us in Year 2.

If you have any questions please do come and see us.

Miss Orpin and Mr White.

SATs information

At the end of Key Stage 1 children are required to sit their SATs tests. At St Mary's we aim to make this as stress free and relaxed for the children as possible.

Our SATs will take place on the week beginning 6th May 2019. Please make sure the children are in school and on time for this week. On the day of the tests Mrs Manwaring and I will be taking the children out in small groups throughout the day to complete their tests in a quiet room. Half way through the tests we will stop the children for a snack and drink break before we carry on.

The schedule is as follows:

Monday 6th May- Bank holiday Monday

Tuesday 7th May- Maths Paper 1

Wednesday 8th May- Maths Paper 2

Thursday 9th May- Reading Paper 1

Friday 10th May- Reading Paper 2

If any children are absent on these days then they will complete the tests during the following week (week beginning 13th May).

I have attached a few helpful websites and videos to provide more information about the tests and what the children will be completing. Please note that we have been practicing these tests in the classroom so the children are aware of the layout and how the tests work.

If you have any questions at all please come and speak to me!

Miss Orpin

This term we have been very lucky that Year 5 have been coming down to help us with our reading! We are very grateful for all of the help that they are giving us.

Mindfulness breathing

We have been learning to use our breathing to help us control our emotions. We learnt that if we are feeling anxious or upset we can do some Bee Breaths to calm ourselves down. You have to breathe in and then breathe out making the sound of a Humming Bee.

Happy Valentine's Day! We had great fun raising money for ECHO. We made paper chains to decorate the hall, valentines day cards to give to our loved ones, frames to sell to raise money for ECHO and finally we coloured in Eddie the ECHO bear. We had a great day!

This term we are reading Jim and the Beanstalk by Raymond Briggs. We have created our own actions for the story to help us remember the order of the key events.

This term in Science we are learning about plants. We headed out to the sunny school field to observe and record the different plants we could find.

This week (week beginning 25.2.19) in Maths we are learning about positional language, following and giving instructions and sequencing objects to make a pattern.

In Science this week (week beginning 5.3.19) we planted our own seeds but we don't know what they are! We are very excited to see our plants grow.

We met Reception's baby ducks! They were very soft and fluffy!

This week we have been creating an alternative version to Jim and the Beanstalk by Raymond Briggs. On Wednesday (13.3.19) we practiced verbally telling our partners our stories to help us begin to think of intersting adjectives and sentence starters to use when we start writing our stories next week.

We used drama to create freeze frames showing different parts of the Easter story. Can you guess what parts we are acting out in each picture?

Happy Science Day!

It has been 1 week since we planted our seeds. Look at how they have grown so far. We have predicted that the plants with the most sun and water will grow the best. Do you think we are correct?
